Deception is the name of the game, it was the theme behind Sunday’s game, and it was the underlying theme for the past 2-3 weeks in Tampa.

The deception in the game was that our offense could fire on all cylinders without Jeff Garcia in the driver’s seat. Now don’t get me wrong, Luke McCown has done an unimaginable job as 3rd string QB, so much in fact he is now our future, being bumped up to 2nd stringer. But Earnest Graham was not ready to dominate on the ground just yet, even against such a simple run defense in the Texans. And an under usage of all our receivers for the entire game was a definite mistake. But in the end, what mattered was what our defense could do. Once again, our defense was put in between a rock and a hard place, a fledgling offense struggling to keep us in the game, and a surprising and underrated Texans offense going full blast. It was too much for the 3rd week in a row.

The other deception, by the one and only Jon Gruden. The suggestion that Jeff Garcia may have started either the New Orleans Saints game or the Houston Texans game was completely false, he was never expected to start at all. Jon Gruden’s excuse is he was trying to confuse the opposing teams. Now its always a good idea to try and confuse the other team and its an even better idea to conserve your star QB when your almost entirely sure your team will make the playoffs. But to deceive fans, to leak false information to the press and then to not apologize to anyone and calling it part of the game, I think is wrong. If your team is good enough, it shouldn’t matter who they think will play as QB, and it didn’t seem to throw off the Texans for long.
